From 1982 to Today: How Construction Sites Have Changed Over More Than Forty Years

If we could travel back in time to an Italian construction site in 1982, we would hardly recognize it. That same year, while Italy celebrated its FIFA World Cup victory, Polieri was founded. Since then, we have witnessed, experienced and contributed to a true revolution in the way construction work is carried out.

Mixing Technology: From Noisy Machines to Acoustic Comfort

In the early 1980s, construction sites were dominated by deafening noise. Traditional concrete mixers, although incredibly reliable, generated significant noise pollution due to exposed gear transmission systems.

Today: Technological innovation has led to the development of low-noise concrete mixers featuring Poly-V belt transmission systems and oil-bath gear reducers. Today, work can be carried out in historic city centers or near schools while minimizing noise, improving both public comfort and workers’ hearing protection.

Material Handling: The End of Heavy Manual Labor

Forty years ago, moving cement bags, bricks and rubble relied almost entirely on workers’ physical strength and traditional wheelbarrows. The long-term impact on workers’ health was considerable, and transporting materials was slow and exhausting.

Today: Compact mini dumpers and modern lifting systems have transformed on-site logistics. Loads of up to 500 kg can be moved over slopes and through narrow passages with the simple movement of a control lever, significantly reducing injuries caused by physical strain.

The Safety Revolution

In the early 1980s, awareness of workplace safety was unfortunately very different from today’s standards. Temporary electrical panels and unprotected moving parts were often considered acceptable.

Today: Safety is at the heart of every machine we design. Automatic safety interlocks on mixer guards, thermally protected motors, easily accessible emergency stop buttons and rigorous certifications ensure that productivity never comes at the expense of operator safety.
